8 Awesome Ski Resorts in Alberta and BC

Albertans are spoiled when it comes to access to great ski resorts. With the Rocky Mountains on our doorsteps (and just a short drive away for most of us), trying to decide which resort to visit can be challenging. Our list of eight of Alberta and B.C.'s top ski resorts can help narrow down your search.

Sunshine Village

Sunshine Village is a short 20-minute drive from the resort town of Banff in Banff National Park. Offering virtually 100% soft, natural snow, Sunshine Village is known for its lengthy ski season from mid-November until late May. Located at the top of the Continental Divide, the majority of the terrain is above 7,000 feet, with breathtaking scenery of mountains and valleys. Sunshine Village also has the ONLY ski-in, ski-out property in Banff National Park.

Marmot Basin

Marmot Basin is located 20 minutes from the town of Jasper and within Jasper National Park in the Canadian Rockies. Ski and snowboard runs are split evenly between easy, intermediate and advanced, making this an ideal destination for the whole family and all abilities. Features the Canadian Rockies Express, the longest new high-speed quad chair lift in the Canadian Rocky Mountains.

Lake Louise Ski Area

Lake Louise Ski Area is one of Canada’s largest ski areas; offering skiers and boarders unlimited possibilities. With four mountain faces, 4200 skiable acres, 113 named trails and 5 quad chairs, ‘the Lake’ is hard to beat. With abundant natural snow, backed up by one of Canada’s largest snowmaking systems, Lake Louise Ski Area offers skiing/riding from early November to early May. This resort's huge, wide open bowls lay claim to some of the driest, lightest snow.

Nakiska

Nestled in the Canadian Rockies in the heart of the Kananaskis Valley, Nakiska is a winter playground. An ideal learning facility for those new to the sports of skiing and snowboarding, with wide open runs groomed to perfection. Kimberley Alpine Resort

Situated in the Purcell Range of the Canadian Rockies is Kimberley Alpine Resort. Only 5 km from the unique Bavarian-themed town of Kimberley, B.C. Kicking Horse Resort

Kicking Horse Resort is the first, four season mountain resort to open in the Rockies region in 25 years. Located 2.5 hours west of Calgary, along the Trans-Canada Highway. The Resort is situated next to the Rockies in the Dogtooth range of the Purcell Mountains. Encompasses 2,750 acres of ski and snowboarding terrain. The vertical drop from mountaintop to the village is 4,133 feet (1,260 meters), making it the second highest in Canada. The Golden Eagle Express features Canada’s first, level, walk-in Omega III gondola cabins seating up to eight passengers. Choose from a variety of ski-in/ski-out mountain properties. Fernie Alpine Resort

Fernie Alpine Resort hosts endless adventures on this mountain.
