The Hinton Nordic Centre is a world-class venue for cross-country skiing, mountain biking, snowshoeing, biathlon and even natural luge, and is located on Highway 40 North.

Things to do in Hinton

Hinton is absolutely an alpine outdoorsperson’s paradise!

  • Mountain Biking: Annual festival: Beaver Bike Fest, two free access mountain bike parks within the town to develop skills for all ages and abilities. Check out Trail Etiquette from the Hinton Mountain Bike Association, Ladies mountain biking Monday rides and clinics.
  • Fat Biking: Hinton has started a new Fat biking endurance race, the Hinton Growler, during their Winter Magic Festival in February.
  • Festivals: Winter Magic Festival - Every February, Hinton celebrates all that is alpine winter sports and culture.
  • The Hinton Nordic Centre: Located in the William A. Switzer Provincial Park, the Nordic Centre is a world-class venue for cross-country skiing, mountain biking, biathlon and even natural luge, and is located on Highway 40 North
  • Northern Rockies Museum of Culture and Heritage : This is a great little museum to visit if you’d like to learn more about local mountain history – first explorers, the railway, and what life was like. There’s lots of interactive exhibits and activities for families.
  • Willmore Wilderness Park: For a rugged backcountry trip, check out Willmore Wilderness Park. It’s the largest wilderness area in Alberta, and the second largest provincially protected area. It offers a unique back country experience in some of the last undisturbed range of many wildlife species in Alberta. Visitors to Willmore should be experienced and well-equipped.

There is great, authentic places to eat in Hinton, here are a few places we recommend:

  • Gus’ Pizza – hometown feel, the pizza is great and they pile on the toppings, ribs are fall off the bone, and the Greek salad is fresh and delicious
  • The Old Grind – really good coffee, baked goods, breakfast and lunch options. Gluten friendly and Vegetarian friendly options.
  • Rojo Marron – authentic Mexican food! Everything is fresh, most sauces are totally made in house. You can dial in how spicy you’d like it, if you’re feeling adventurous – try their homemade 4 pepper hotsauce – DELICIOUS!!
  • Stone Peak Restaurant – this is a charming rustic mountain lodge style dining room. The food is described as progressive Canadian cuisine, they have a spectacular wine list, and even their patio has won awards. Best to book your reservation ahead of time.
