Crossing the Antarctic Circle | AMA Travel

7 Continents Contest Prize: Crossing the Antarctic Circle

Spend some time exploring a part of the world very few travellers have ventured: south of the Antarctic Circle.

Imagine: Your expedition begins in Ushuaia, a port town on the southern tip of Argentina. From there you board Ocean Diamond and cross the waters of Drake Passage towards the rising peaks of Antarctica. Photo opportunities abound: massive icebergs, crowds of penguins, and curious sea birds overhead. Then you’ll make several landfalls and trek onto the White Continent itself. For the next few days you’ll be busy spotting whales, hiking, skipping along the waters in a Zodiac, and listening for the cracking sounds of glaciers in the distance. You’ll then share in conversation and hear guest lectures from the Expedition Team on the way back to South America.
