Exotic Vacations

Find the Real in Unreal Places

Photographing giraffes striding the Serengeti at sunrise. Hiking up the high steps to Machu Picchu. Navigating the steamy jungles of Costa Rica. These are once-in-a-lifetime experiences travellers spend months trying to plan. We make it easy. AMA’s longstanding relationship with the world’s best exotic tour partners means we’ll find you the unforgettable journey you’ll be telling your loved ones about for ages.

How is an exotic vacation different from other travel styles?

Every traveller’s definition of exotic is different. But we like to think of it as a faraway destination that has sights, smells, and sounds unlike anything you’ll experience in Alberta. What comes to mind is Australia’s Great Barrier Reef, African safaris, train journeys across India, or wandering the Khmer temples of Cambodia.

How many other travellers will be on the tour?

Depending on the tour partner, there will be between 10 and 45 other guests joining you on your trip. Many of your fellow travellers will be from other countries, so you’ll have the opportunity to make friends with people from all over the world.

What if I have dietary restrictions or allergies?

Simply let your AMA travel agent know what you can’t have, and we’ll inform the tour partner so that they can arrange your meals accordingly.

Are children allowed on exotic tours?

On many—yes. Please contact an AMA travel agent to get more information about our exotic vacations designed for families with kids.

Do I need travel medical insurance?

Although proof of travel medical insurance is not required to visit most destinations, we strongly recommend you purchase insurance whenever you travel. That’s because your provincial healthcare only covers you within Alberta.

How much luggage should I bring?

Packing light is always the best philosophy. Most of our exotic tour partners limit a guest’s luggage to one suitcase (76 cm x 46 cm x 25 cm) with weight not exceeding 23 kg. You can also bring one piece of hand luggage, like a backpack, shoulder bag, or purse—enough space for a good camera.

Is there any freedom and flexibility in the itineraries?

We know that most travellers like having the freedom to do their own thing. If you’re interested in visiting a particular temple, or you just want an evening to go out and socialize with locals, your trip itinerary has blocks of time reserved to do with as you please.
